1. Turn-Based Battle

2. Active Time Battle (ATB)
Active Time Battle has little to no resemblance with turn-based combat. Each character can move at their turn. Your choices on the menu will determine what character that character does.
The difference is each character's turn does not come alternately, but when the character's waiting time is over. It's not the same with waiting and/or being busy thinking about and making decisions. Time goes by fast. This means that your party members and enemies, as well as other characters, will keep moving. If you make poor decisions, your character will either stop moving or perform the default move (usually a simple attack). It all depends on what game you are playing.
