The Combat System is often encountered in RPG Games.
Due to several factors, Action RPG is one the most popular genres of gaming. This genre is well-suited to tell an engaging story with characters. Second, this genre has a very long playing time. RPG games offer many combat systems. Each of them has different dynamics and demands a different mindset as well. Although you may enjoy some combat systems, it is possible to not like others.

1. A Turn-Based Battle
Turn-based combat systems are quite old. This system allows each character to take actions in turns, often influenced by an attribute like _speed. A menu of action/movement options opens when it's your turn. The timer will stop at the point you decide what to do about that character. Even if you decide to wait 15 minutes, your opponent as well as your party will notice.

The turn-based battle is the slowest combat system and might be considered boring. Instead, this combat system stresses the importance of players devising their strategies well. Each turn for each character is important, as each enemy has unique characteristics which require a different strategy. When facing a boss, even the smallest error can prove fatal.

2. Active Time Battle (ATB)
Active Time Battle has little to no resemblance with turn-based combat. Each new character can move when it's their turn, and what that character does depends on your choices in the menu.

The difference is each character's turn does not come alternately, but when the character's waiting time is over. Time flies when you are waiting or busy thinking and making decisions. This means that other characters, be they enemies or party members, keep moving. If you don't make quick decisions, the character you control will either stand still or perform the default move (usually a basic attack), depending on the game you're playing.
