Technoblade, a YouTube celebrity who gained a following of millions with his humorous commentary on videos of himself playing Minecraft has passed away, his father announced in a video posted on his son's YouTube account.

Technoblade's Minecraft gameplay was watched by more than 11 million subscribers. He also provided commentary on camera. While he usually focused on the action in the game, in a few videos, he described things that are as routine as going to the D.M.V. or as devastating as receiving a cancer diagnosis.

Technoblade's YouTube channel uploaded a video entitled "so long geeks" on Thursday. It was seen more than 26 million times since Friday afternoon. The video is a departure from the usual style of the channel which is characterized by vibrant bricks that are pixelated. Instead an individual who claims to identify himself as Technoblade's father has been shown sitting in a chair against an uninspiring white backdrop with a small white dog on his lap.

His father, who does not identify himself, reads the message from his son, which begins: "Hello, everyone. Technoblade is here. If you're watching this, I am dead."

The message continues to reveal Technoblade's first name, Alex, which he did not use on the internet. The video also features a handful of pictures of Alex with his loved ones. He hasn't often appeared in his YouTube videos, preferring to show himself in his avatar: a crowned sword-wielding pig.

Alex's letter says that "If I had another hundred years of years to live, I'm sure I'd choose Technoblade every time." "Those were the most joyful years of my entire life."

His father, who is emotional throughout the video, says he and his son talked for months about whether or not to make a final video. Instead, Alex decided to write the letter, and died approximately eight hours after completing it, his father says.

He adds, "I don’t think he was able to say everything he wanted, however I believe he understood the major points."

The video concludes with a declaration written by Alex's mother (who isn't identified) wrote. She said Alex was not famous and self-deprecating despite his channel's popularity growing.

"From Technoblade's earliest online days, he was constantly thinking of ways to please and reward his audience, giving away online prizes as well as encouraging good sportsmanship, and, most of all sharing his Minecraft adventures for fun and entertainment," she wrote.

Alex's family was unable to reach the player on Friday. Hypixel Gaming, a gaming firm said that the family requested that no information be provided to them. Don Pireso, the company administrator, stated in a direct tweet "The video they posted contains all the information they are comfortable sharing right now."

Alex first made public his cancer diagnosis in a video posted on his channel in August. The video, which showed Alex's voice off camera, displayed the game. He kept his self-deprecating and humorous style, refusing to make any attempt to be too serious. He also revealed his age, 22.

In the video, he explained how the first round of chemotherapy left him exhausted to the point that he could barely get up for a virtual doctor's appointment. Then, he joked: "Sitting in a chair is that me being Superman?"

He claimed he was diagnosed after experiencing severe pain in his arm. Although initially he dismissed the discomfort as a result of a repetitive strain injury from video games, he later admitted that his shoulder was swelling up after some days of rest.

He also advised people to take the Covid-19 vaccine. He also said that his cancer treatments had weakened the immune system, making him more prone to serious illnesses caused by the coronavirus.

"I'm going to stand up and speak on behalf of all cancer patients when I say that it is extremely frustrating when hospitals are getting overworked by people dying of preventable diseases," he said in the video. "I'm just saying that we should have priority on the beds in hospitals.

Technoblade's fans, friends and followers on social media have praised his wit and humor, as well as his role as an inspiration for Minecraft players.

Minecraft is different from other games because its owner, Microsoft, does not control the servers where players meet online. Instead, players can create their own servers or join one made by another person, creating an expansive world of virtual worlds within the Minecraft universe.

Hypixel, which runs a network of Minecraft servers, announced that it had designed a digital memorial book to allow people to write messages that would be printed and sent to Technoblade's family. Hypixel's tribute included the pig's avatar as a statue. "In many ways the success of a lot of us is linked to Technoblade's success. Technoblade," the company said.
