Minecraft Says It Doesn't Want Anything to have to do with Blockchain, NFTs, or NFTs.

While certain industries are considering NFTs however, the videogame industry is proving clear that NFTs are "No F'n Thanks" in their field.



The most recent company to stand up against non-fungible tokens is Mojang Studios, the developer of the hugely loved video game Minecraft.



In a statement put out today on the official Minecraft website, titled "Minecraft and NFTs," the company made it crystal clear that it would not permit any kind of blockchain or NFT integration with its game.



Mojang Studios and Minecraft laid out a few reasons as to why they are against NFTs. One reason is that they clarified that fake scarcity plays a significant role in the. NFTs, also known as tokens that are not fungible, are basically digital assets that are stored on a blockchain. A unique token is created and connected to the media file to declare ownership of that piece which has turned NFTs into speculative assets.



The statement clarifies that Minecraft does not oppose revenue-generating, and uses the example of users paying for access to a Minecraft server as an approved use scenario. However, since NFTs will alter the game's dynamics and give players with financial means an upperhand in-game The Minecraft developer is opposed to the technology.



"To ensure that Minecraft players enjoy an enjoyable and safe experience, blockchain technologies are not allowed to be used within our Minecraft client and server applications. Nor can be used to create NFTs that are associated with any game-related content, such as worlds, skins, persona items, or any other mods," declares the statement.



The developer also raised concerns about the trustworthiness of third-parties who mint Minecraft-related NFTs, and their tendencies to abandon projects and to fraudulently inflate prices on NFT aftermarkets.



"No blockchain for block game," as Molly White of the website Web3 is Going Great concisely stated it. The website tracks the various scams, frauds, and drama that are taking place in the Web3 world which includes cryptocurrencies as well as NFT projects.

As White notes, the value of existing (and illegal) Minecraft NFT projects tanked following the announcement of Mojang Studios' statement. NFT Worlds, also associated with tokens, saw both the token's value and its NFT floor prices drop by more than 70 percent.



Minecraft's Mojang Studios is far from the first video game company to run without NFTs. Gamers have expressed that they aren't keen on the idea of purchasing NFTs in addition to the video games they already own. Their skepticism about NFTs has caused the industry to follow suit. Just this month, Sony announced a loyalty program called Playstation Stars which will reward players with digital collectibles. These digital collectibles aren't NFTs, as the company said.



"It's certainly not NFTs. Absolutely not. It is not possible to trade or sell them. This isn't using any Blockchain technology and certainly not NFTs," Grace Chen, Sony's VP of network advertising and loyalty spoke to The Washington Post.



Mojang Studios ended its statement by saying that they will monitor the development of blockchain technology for future use cases. However, this leaves the door open to potential uses based on existing possibilities. However, those who aren't a fan of NFTs can gain another victory at least for the near future.
