Avanos Medical, a U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) company recalls Cortrak*2 enteral access device because of misplacement of nasoenteric tubes or nasogastric tubs that could have caused injuries and even death of patients. The recall currently covers 629 devices which were sold throughout the United States.
Avanos sells the Cortrak*2 enteral access device for its visualisation of the small bowel and stomach, which aids in the placement of a feeding tube. Avanos Medical Patients could suffer damage to their vocal cords, lungs or the trachea if the tube is not properly placed. Avanos Medical's recall notification states that as of 2015, there has been 60 deaths and 23 injuries due to incorrect placement of nasogastric feed tubes using the CORTRAK*2 enteral access system. Pneumothorax, pulmonary failure (collapsed lungs) and perforation (a hole in one's stomach or bowel wall) as well as pneumonia and an excess of fluid in the lung and chest cavity (the chest cavity as well as the lungs) have all been among the traumas.

Avanos was the second alert issued by the FDA in 2022 regarding tube feeding through the stomach.
