This recall is used to make changes to the labeling of the device, which includes the instructions for usage and the intended usage. The users are advised to confirm that the tube has been placed in accordance with the specifications of their institution before applying it to provide nutrition.
Patients are at risk of suffering severe injuries or even death due to incorrectly placed nasogastric and nasoenteric tubes.
Avanos Medical has issued a recall notification stating that, since 2015, there has been sixty deaths and 23 injuries caused by misplacement nasogastric feeding tube.
