Avanos Medical and FDA issued a Class 1 recall of 629 units of CORTRAK*2 Enteral Access System, which is a feeding tube positioning device that is linked to many incidents of injury and death.
The devices that were recalled were released between April 1st, 2016 and January 1, 2022. Avanos Medical They're used to aid healthcare professionals insert feeding tubes into the stomach or the intestines of patients.
Avanos Medical Nasogastric tubes or Nasoenteric tubes that were placed incorrectly have resulted in 23 deaths and 60 injury reports since 2015.
Avanos Medical feeding tube This recall is used to update the information on the device, in order to remind customers to make sure that the tube was correctly placed before they can deliver food.
According to FDA the adverse events were respiratory failure as well as pneumothorax (collapsed lungs), perforation [a hole in the wall or bowel of the lung], pneumonia (a lung infection), and the pleural effusion (excess liquid that has accumulated in the space between your lungs and your chest cavity).
