Isabel Lawson was in her room when she realized how drastically her life had changed in a matter of days. I had no idea that saying goodbye would be so painful, especially when some of them might be your last. Prior to Valentine's Day in February, Isabel, Sage, their parents, and their dog bob he’s a black French bulldog were traveling to their grandparents to be cared for while their parents spent the weekend in Hawaii.

We had been on the road for hours before we finally spotted the sign for Sapphire Springs, North Carolina, and we went right past a cute boy cleaning the sign and then bob started barking and he looked at me and I blushed And I wondered his name, hoping that I would likely learn it soon when I peered out my window and saw the Springs café, a small coffee shop. I gave the shopkeeper Timmy a wave. I waved at the next shop, the Lawson hardware, which was my granddad's hardware shop. Since I had only visited Sapphire Springs a few times previously, I hardly knew anyone there, aside from most of the shop owners. At the time, my grandma was the mail carrier. I think that Sarah was the owner. I then noticed my grandma's house after turning down Benedict Road. She was planting

sunflowers, Cala, lilies, and daisies in the front garden, which had a tiny cottage-like appearance. She was visible to me as she stood on her doorstep. In the T-shirt I gave her for Christmas and her pants. Best grandmother ever, it stated. When the car stopped, I stepped out and waved at the girl who appeared to be my age but who I had never seen before. She had short hair and a frog bucket hat on, and I had never seen someone with gray eyes like Her's. I also helped my dad by taking the dog and bags from the car. And then my grandmother told me about Gracie Thompson. who lives next door My Grandpa arrived, and my parents left after we said our goodbyes to them. Sage took Bob outside


after we set up Bob's cage and I and Gracie unpacked my luggage. I asked Gracie if she wanted to go to the café later and she said yes, so I asked my grandma. She said sure, but I had to take Sage. So, after we unpacked me, Sage and Gracie went to the café. And as he joined us and said, "You're the girl with that dog, right?" there came the boy who'd been cleaning the sign. I responded positively, and Gracie then introduced Dylan to me. Dylan, I said that I like that name. He grinned, and we then ordered tea and sandwiches. Afterward, we sat outside. Then Dylan told us that he had a younger brother named Jacob, who was 12 years old, and that he thought Sage and him would get along. We then made


plans to meet up again the next day, and Gracie walked us home. I went to my room to read the Harry Potter book I had brought, and a few minutes later my grandparents called for us to come downstairs for dinner. We had steak and potatoes, and then the phone rang. Bob was in his cage, barking. Then we started to unpack and put away Sage's stuff. The hospital was on the phone. My parents' plane crashed, they said, in Phoenix, Arizona. my grandmother's. asked if they were alright. The doctor pronounced them dead. I shrieked. My grandmother wailed. My grandfather sat on a chair. He then buried his head in his hands. Sage was breathing rapidly. She was in tears.
