Minecraft crosses 1 trillion views on YouTube
YouTube views of Minecraft go over 1 trillion
Y'all really, really like Minecraft
By Ash Parrish
Making the metaverse a top destination for newlyweds and tech companies was long before the internet. It was originally a video game about avoiding explosions caused by hissing cactus beasts. The platform evolved into a blank canvas on which millions of people could create and upload their content , and generate millions of views. YouTube today celebrated a record-breaking trillionth views in collaboration with Minecraft developer Mojang. Below is a glimpse of YouTube's unique and transformational history.
Guimods
Minecraft's chief storyteller Lydia Winters attributes the game's trillion views to the team's respect for the myriad ways players utilize Minecraft to tell their stories.
"We have players who are on adventures, and people who are building and who are playing together, and all of those ways of playing are important to us," she tells The Verge. Her role as Minecraft's primary storyteller is to build and maintain a world players love. The ability to allow different kinds of storytelling has been critical to the game's nigh untouchable popularity.
She states that YouTube videos are a great way to tell stories and Minecraft has been so successful on YouTube. "So when you have Minecraft and you are able to tell any story you'd like in the Minecraft world It's one of the main reasons why we have so many people making Minecraft content."
"All those ways of playing are important to us"
According to the statistics according to the numbers, Minecraft's YouTube channel has more than 35,000 creators representing over 150 countries. The type of content available that can be found on YouTube is varied from simple role-playing "Let's Plays" to videos that don't contain any actual gameplay from Minecraft at all.
Earnest Pettie is the YouTube trend and culture leader on YouTube. He is aware of the bizarre and amazing ways that Minecraft users use the site. He's intrigued by one creator in particular who uses the Minecraft aesthetic and is popular in the Minecraft community, but isn't actually playing the game.
Petite says that animation is among the most popular trends in Minecraft. It can be created with Minecraft or derived from the Minecraft aesthetic. "Jake Fellman is a YouTube creator who makes shorts. He has created over 100 Minecraft-inspired shorts that are actually computer animation. He's among the most watched Minecraft creators of this year."
Fellman's videos are fifteen-second bursts of hyper-realistic "What would happen if Minecraft graphics were rendered with the Unreal Engine 5" shorts which feature adorable interactions with monsters or sheep and get over one million views a pop.
YouTube offers a fascinating overview of the background of the game played on its platform over the last 11 years, including stats and graphs and facts about what it took to get 1 trillion views.
It's interesting to observe how the the genres of Minecraft videos evolve over time as they fade in and out of fashion. The multi-million-view hits in Minecraft's early years were music videos parodies by Minecraft famous characters such as CaptainSparklez. Today, Dream (who recently won a Game Award for content creator of the year) dominates the charts with his Minecraft manhunt series that includes his friends trying to stop Dream from winning the game by any means necessary.
Minecraft is the most popular game on YouTube ever. In the year 2020, it racked up more than 200 billion views. second place - interestingly Roblox another sandbox-like game - earned less than half of that. Part of that seemingly untouchable popularity is because of Minecraft's inherent nature. It's a vast open space that's filled with possibilities for creation and iteration of that creation in a manner unlike any other video game boast. Pettie also speaks of the community as an additional reason.
He claims, "One trillion views isn't feasible without the ingenuity of the creators and all the creators who have uploaded Minecraft videos over the years."
