It's true that learning about your country's government and government is not always the most exciting thing to do. That's why the Danish Geodata Agency recreated the entire country of Denmark in 1:1 scale within Minecraft to make learning a bit more fun. Unfortunately the Internet had its own agenda, and decided to teach the Danes an important lesson about ... we don't even know. Why can't the world have nice things?
It's true, despite the DGA shutting off dynamite from the map they made - which used more than 4 trillion blocks and 1 terabyte of data - the intrepid Minecraft players discovered that in-game carts which carried the dynamite were in operation. By exploiting this vulnerability players destroyed areas of virtual Denmark towns, and sometimes erected American flags and tanks on top of them. Classy.
DGA spokesperson Chris Hammeken told UK news site The Register that only minor areas were affected and that the DGA does not plan to reboot the map. "We believe that this is a characteristic of playing Minecraft elements are broken down and new are being created," Hammeken said. "Therefore we won't restart the demo of Denmark in Minecraft. We may occasionally rebuild minor areas, when buildings have been destroyed and no new structures are being constructed.
