Microsoft was left red-faced during the Christmas season when its Xbox One service was infiltrated by hackers, and it is now experiencing the same issue.
The reports on a German website claim that a list of 1,800 Microsoft owned Minecraft's usernames and passwords have been released online.
If they have access to these information A security expert warns that criminals can gain access to accounts, change settings , and buy virtual items.
Heise Online reported the hack and a large number of the verified accounts (selection of which are shown) are believed to belong to German gamers. Although it is not specific how the hackers got the credentials, security analyst Graham Cluely stated that there are a variety of possibilities. These include phishing attacks and malware as well as security breaches.
Heise Online reported the hack and a large portion of the verified accounts are believed be belonging to German gamers.
It's not clear how the hackers gained access on the credentials, but security analyst Graham Cluely wrote on the Hot for Security blog: 'Possibilities range from simple phishing attacks, keylogging malware stealing players' information as they sign into the game, or a security breach at Minecraft itself.

"Let's hope that this isn't our last one, since the game has more than 100 million registered users.
MailOnline was informed by a Microsoft spokesperson that they were able to confirm that there was no Mojang.net services were compromised.
"Normal industrial procedures" were created to deal with situations such as this. They were used to reset passwords for a limited number of affected accounts.
Minecraft was founded in 2009.
At the beginning of the game, a character is put into a 'virtually infinite game world.'
While the original game was designed to be played on the PC, there are now versions for mobile and Xbox 360.
The hack is quite small in comparison to the number of registered users.
However, as Mr. Cluely pointed out that if unauthorised users accessed the exposed email addresses and passwords, they could not only log into other people's gameworlds but also download a full version of the game which normally sells for EUR19.95 Euros ($26.95 or PS17.95).'
Cybercriminals can also get access to an individual's email address in order to hack other accounts or send malware, or send spam.
Mr. Cluely also said that there's no guarantee that the hacker who made this current list also doesn't have more 'in their back pockets.'
Microsoft purchased Mojang in September in a deal that was said to be worth $2.5 billion (PS1.5 billion).
GAMES
The game is accessible on PCs and Androids, iOS, Windows Phone and Windows Phone. It also is compatible with consoles like the Xbox One or PlayStation 4.
However the Microsoft spokesman told MailOnline that there was no evidence that the Mojang.net service was compromised. Although the amount of information revealed is not that big in comparison to the game's 100,000,000 users however, Mr. Cluely said that there's no guarantee that the hacker who released the current list didn't have more information in their back pockets'.
A player is thrown into the virtual world of infinite space at the beginning of the game. The character can then explore different terrains, including forests, mountains and caves.
More than 16,645,000 people have purchased the game to date and it's an online phenomenon.
YouTube channels are available that teach people how to play the game. In some cases the owners may quit their jobs through advertising.
