Magic Mike's Last Dance: Mike will finally get a relationship with his partner in The HBO Max sequel
In a roundtable discussion with Steven Soderbergh and Zoe Kravitz regarding their forthcoming film KIMI the director talked about the highly anticipated third installment in the Magic Mike storyline, titled Magic Mike's Last Dance. Soderbergh also discussed his desire to inspire Channing Tatum to keep telling the story, which is, in part, inspired by Tatum's past as stripper in Tampa, Florida.

Soderbergh produced Magic Mike, which was released in 2012. Magic Mike was a big popular with critics and viewers who not just praised the sex appeal and dance sequences, but also the script, direction, and the performances. Tatum was in the film with Alex Pettyfer, Matt Bomer, Joe Manganiello, and Matthew McConaughey. Bomer and Manganiello will also be back with Tatum in the 2015 sequel Magic Mike XXL, this time directed by Gregory Jacobs, who was the first assistant director on the first film. The sequel was also a financial and critical success.


In the days when Magic Mike was still just one of many concepts, Soderbergh remembers pointing to Magic Mike as the one project Tatum should be focusing on. He explained that when Tatum presented the idea at the filming of Haywire and it instantly attracted his attention. Later, when the story was complete, Soderbergh was eager to join in to make the idea a possibility.

A third film is on the way, which was announced in November and named Magic Mike's Last Dance , Soderbergh gave us a preview of what we can expect in the finale. He said that although he knew about the Magic Mike concept would be an enormous success, he didn't realize that Tatum was interested in expanding the world of the film into a larger area, one that dealt with relationships, masculinity and respect. This was expanded in the second movie.

"The third movie is kind of the culmination of everything we've been discussing in that area. It's not just about taking the dance to another level, but really getting into the aspect of relationships that has been a major theme in all the movies. Mike has a relationship that's central to this movie, while the rest is taking place. This isn't the first time that we've done this."

While Last Dance could very well be the last dance of Mike Lane Soderbergh's return to his franchise is an exciting one. After the XXL sequel we've made it to the top, but there's more to reveal about Mike's story.
