Xbox has joined forces with preservation society National Trust (opens in new tab) and some British creatives to make an Minecraft model of Corfe Castle. This impressive, intricate model was sponsored by Xbox UK in the National Trust's festival archaeology. It encourages users to create their own ruin using the foundations.
To that end the first build was done by a YouTube video maker named Grian who's work is featured in the video above and on YouTube. (opens in a new tab) Utilizing historical photographs and consulting with an expert, and then using Minecraft build knowledge with a touch of artistic license, Grian creates a build that highlights the most fascinating aspects of Corfe Castle, such as its historic Octagonal tower and miniature palace, or "Gloriette." As I understand it, is kind of like a medieval kingly version of the Victorian folly.
"Grian has done an amazing job restoring Corfe Castle back to its former glory. He not only recreated the old styles of the castle grounds accurately and accurately, but also brought in his own imagination. Martin Papworth, an archaeologist with the National Trust, said that we can't wait to see more inspiring designs from the next generation of young minds."
