GINSENG
- Gingseng -
Gingseng, tanaman yang menjadi julukan bagi suatu negara yaitu Korea (Negeri Gingseng) merupakan tanaman yang istimewa. Ginseng memang telah di manfaatkan oleh masyarakat di kawasan asia pasifik dari sejak zaman dahulu kala. Khususnya negara di kawasan Cina, Korea, Jepang dan beberapa wilayah asia tenggara.
Tanaman ini memang sudah melegenda yang banyak dimanfaatkan sebagai tanaman untuk pengobatan dan kesehatan. Ginseng (Panax) adalah sejenis terna berkhasiat obat yang termasuk dalam suku Araliaceae. Ginseng tumbuh di wilayah belahan bumi utara terutama di Siberia, Manchuria, Korea, dan Amerika Serikat.
Jenis ginseng tropis dapat ditemukan di Vietnam, yaitu Panax vietnamensis. Nama "ginseng" diambil dari bahasa Inggris, yang dibaca mengikuti lafal
Bahasa Kantonis = jên shên
Bahasa Mandarin = "ren shen", "人蔘" (duplikat manusia), karena bentuk akar yang menyerupai manusia.

Kandungan Ginseng:
Kandungan kimia ginseng yang telah diketahui adalah saponin dan glikosida.
Glikosida pada akar ginseng dikenal sebagai ginsenosida. Selain itu, akar ginseng juga mengandungi 16 jenis ginsenosida, yaitu:
minyak asiri
panasena
resih
musilago
asam panax
fitosterol
hormon
vitamin B
kabohirat
selulosa
Pada tahun 1960 an, sejenis sebatian yang dikenal sebagai “terpenidol glycisides” telah ditemui oleh peneliti-peneliti Moskow dan Tokyo.
