As the Plane is Pinned Up

One of the problems with flying in Minecraft is the inability to observe the ground due to short render distances. MFS offers a variety of flight instruments that can help solve this issue. You can add instruments to the plane GUI. They will show on the HUD and also on your plane based on the location they appear in the GUI. The HUD itself has four modes that can be altered by pressing the mod key in combination with the cam lock key.

1. Normal: Shows the top row of gauges, throttle, parking brake, and flaps. 2. Full: Shows the normal HUD and lower row of gauges.

3. Light: Shows only the top three gauges. No background. Also available in third-person.

4. None: There is no HUD displayed.

A variety of gauges and instruments are available for planes, each having their own purpose.

Attitude Indicator

The attitude indicator is among the most versatile instruments. It indicates the plane's location relative to the ground. The indicator rotates to show the current position, while its inner circle moves up and down to indicate pitch. Note that the direction the plane is pointed is not the exact same as the direction that the plane is traveling. A plane that is pointed up could be in a stall, or could be thrown down like a rock.

Altimeter

This gauge simply shows how high the plane is. The short pointer is able to count 100 blocks, while the longer pointer counts 10 blocks. The altimeter will read the number 0 when Y=0 by default, but you can alter this behaviour to read at sea level (Y=64) instead.

Heading Indicator

A simple gauge that informs the direction you're heading. Although similar to the real-world equivalent it is modified to deal with Minecraft's odd south-is-positive coordinate system. Sure, you can use the debug screen however, what's the point in that?

Airspeed Indicator

This gauge shows how fast the plane is moving in blocks per second. In general the plane should flying in the green zone, however, this is dependent on the flap settings and weight. The yellow zone is safe, but sudden movements and deployment of flaps is not advised. Avoid the red zone because it could cause the plane to break when you exceed the speed limit. After you have passed 50 blocks per second, Minecraft is unable to handle the plane's force correctly and can result in undefined behavior. The speed factor can affect the flyable speed.

Turn Coordinator

This gauge displays the speed at which the plane is turning, and the rate at which the turn is growing. This means that it will move when the plane begins rolling, but will even out when the aileron isn't longer being used. This lets the pilot alter the speed of their plane to achieve a smooth turn. The gauge's bottom displays the speed of the turn or how straight the plane is in relation to its direction. A well-coordinated turn results in the greatest lift potential and control.

Turn and Slip Indicator for Turn and Slip

This indicator is the precursor to the turn coordinator. This indicator does not consider the aircraft's roll. It is preferred by older pilots as well as more experienced pilots. If the artificial horizon is not visible because of clouds or the malfunction of the indicator of attitude the indicator can be used to perform the Stark 1-2-3 maneuver.

Vertical Speed Indicator

This indicator indicates how many blocks per second the plane is moving in the Y-direction. The gradual climb is about 0.75 However, with flaps or a lighter payload this can be higher than 1.

Lift Reserve Indicator

The lift reserve indicator is a new addition to the world of aeronautics. It shows how much of the aircraft’s lift potential is being utilized. The yellow-green border indicates that the plane is currently flying with an angle of attack of zero, i.e. the plane is not producing any lift. deep space ii The needle is moving towards the red area as the plane is pitched up. At the yellow-red border the plane is at its critical angle of attack and generating maximum lift. Passing into the red zone can cause the plane to slow down, resulting in a rapid loss of lift potential. It is very useful for runways that are short and require rapid ascent.

Tachometer

This gauge displays the current RPM of all engines. This gauge also displays the maximum safe speed indicated by the red line. This is to ensure that you don't over-revve your engines.

Fuel Gauge

Shows fuel level. 'Nuff said.

Fuel Flow Gauge

This gauge displays the fuel consumption rate of the aircraft. It is more of a curiosity than a vital component. Fuel consumption is measured in buckets per minute, with each bucket representing the default lava fuel value of 1000.

Engine Temperature Gauge

This gauge shows the temperature of each engine. The needle should always be kept in the green zone for the longest life of the engine. To avoid damage to the engine an engine with a yellow zone temperature lower than the yellow mark should be warmed up prior to taking off. A vehicle with an elevated temperature of red will cause engine damage.
