That makes the task for an AI that much easier. The Facebook team believes that even if their AI fails at certain tasks, it will be useful. They believe that we can make progress towards a system that is effective without needing to be able to complete every request.
But it is still challenging. Understanding ordinary language is one of the challenges. The Facebook team imagines this request:

This seemingly straightforward request will require a lot of knowledge. The assistant needs to understand the concept of"towers," know the concept of a "tower" and how to construct one, be aware that "15 blocks high" is a measure of the tower height, and know what "15" is. It should also be able to comprehend the term "smiley" and how to build it and know what it means to put it "on the top." It's also not difficult to imagine how these demands could become more complicated.
However, the possibilities for an AI to learn are immense. If Facebook can find enough human support the AI could ask humans for help learning.
Facebook has given itself the goal of creating the AI that will self-improve. One of the most frequent criticisms of AI systems is that they don't learn new tasks that are not they are trained for and for which data is collected and compiled. But the researchers think the Minecraft environment is a perfect one to develop this type of learning.
