They keep it simple and don't stray too far from the enduring smearguyliner dramas that never go out-of-style but are very rare today. There is plenty to love here.
Do not drown

It is a silent killer. Victims often spend all their energy trying keep their heads above the water, and don't call for help. The victim can't shout for help if water is inhaled into their lungs.

Although Decemberunderground was meant to be an album that took a step back from the AFI offerings, it is a little too predictable. There are still great songs on the album, however.

Sing The Sorrow

The group's debut album on major labels, Sing The Sorrow changed their lives. They went from being an underground band to becoming a major force in mainstream metal and rock.

Butch Vig and Jerry Finn produced the album. It marked a major change in the band's sound. They moved away from their punk roots and were inspired by groups like Joy Division, Dead Can Dance and Bauhaus.

The album was full of the band's melodicity and musicality. The emo and goth-rock influences are becoming more prominent.
The Missing Man

The missing man formation, in aviation, is a way to remember those who have passed away. It is made up of four aircraft, which form a V. One pilot will peel away while the other passes overhead.

This is a form of Due to the Dead that fighter jet pilots perform to pay respect to their fallen colleagues. You can also honor your loved ones by doing it from a civilian aircraft.

The Missing Man is AFI's latest EP and a remarkable reinvention of their sound. It takes the band in a bold new direction. Five songs are a refreshing departure from what fans have grown to expect from AFI.
