Minecraft: how to Play with Friends on other Platforms Using Cross-play

Minecraft is a fantastic game to play with friends and you can play cross-play with them on any platform, as long as you have the same version.

This means that if you own the Java Edition of Minecraft, you are only able to play with folks who also own the Java Edition. Similar to the Bedrock Edition. If you own different versions, you'll have to purchase the other version to play together.

All platforms that run Minecraft Bedrock Edition are compatible. This includes the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Windows PC, and mobile devices. To access this you'll need an Microsoft account. Your Xbox account in the event that you have one, will work. You can also sign up for one here for free.

If you have an Microsoft Account, you will want to ensure that you have added the person you want to play with to that account. This can often mean inviting a friend to their Xbox Gamertag.

Once you've got everything sorted out, here are the steps to join to be part of the same team.

Participating in a game with a friend

You can join your friend's hosted session by clicking on the Friends tab. As long as you're friends with Microsoft you can join their session by going over to the Friends tab and looking under "Joinable Cross-Platform Friends."

The sessions can only accommodate up to eight people at once.

A pop-up window will pop up in the event that you are asked to join an event. You can choose to accept or decline.

Invite your friends to join in on the fun

To invite friends, open the start menu within the game. You will see a sidebar asking you to invite friends. Minecraft server list Once you select "invite," you can add friends from your list to join your game.

You must be aware of the permissions your session has available (visible in settings). You can change it so participants in your session only look at your world, or you can let them run wild creating and breaking blocks. You can also give them administrative rights. The privileges can be assigned individually by clicking on the yellow icon that is next to their names.

Using Realms to play Multiplayer

Players can also join Realms, which are servers that are open 24/7 and don't require a host to be active at the time of play.

You can send invites to your Realm through the Friends tab or invite via the link if you're playing on your PC. Clicking the link will open the Minecraft app. Console players must be invited by friends list.

After joining the Realm the first time, you will be able to return to it at any time you like from your Friends tab. As long as the Realm remains online and accessible, all Reams that you have joined will be listed under "Joinable Realms". Realms can only hold 11 players at once So if you're not keen to join, it could be that there already are too many people there.
