Cairngorms recreated in video game Minecraft

The Cairngorms is a landscape recreated in the video game Minecraft to help children learn how to manage a national park.
The virtual world, in which players can construct anything with blocks covers all 1,700 square miles (4,402 sq km) of the park, which comprises portions of Highland, Moray, Aberdeenshire and Perthshire.
The settlements were destroyed and Cairngorms Youth Activity Team members are requested to establish new communities.
It is meant to stimulate their thinking about planning decisions.
However, it is reasonable to say that the team is not taking this seriously.
Minecraft creates remote islands
Campbell, a sixteen-year-old from Aviemore is creating a hill fort at Cairn Gorm's top. It is among the highest mountains in the UK.
He states: "It doesn't get the temperature very well, but it can get the landscape.
"We've been up the Cairngorms and have seen the corries. The Lairig Ghru is quite recognisable.
"It's as real as can be. You know what area you're in by the various kinds of trees and also if there are trees or not."
Ellie Moore, a fellow player, stated that "while we're trying build things and farm , there's constantly a flurry of enemies or monsters that appear at night."
"So, it's been quite difficult to travel into the world as you're constantly fighting to survive but I'd say where we've been so far has been pretty precise."
The park was recreated as a lockdown project which Dan Harris carried out in his free time.
In the day, he's the planning manager for the Cairngorms National Park Authority.
He explained: "They're basically dropped onto the map at the location where Aviemore ought to be, and they've been asked to form a community or neighbourhood that will meet the objectives of the national park.
"So, things they have to begin thinking about are how they protect and enhance the natural environment, and how they can make sustainable use of resources."
