Amazon is working on a phone which will feature a 3D glass-free screen. It is expected to be released in June.



According to reports in the Wall Street Journal, the device will make use of retina-tracking technology to make images on the smartphone's display appear to float above the screen like holograms and appear three-dimensional at all angles.'



According to the report, the handset will be announced in June and then launched in September.

This puts it directly in competition with Apple's iPhone 6, which is also expected to be available in September.



KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also believes the firm will launch a phone.



We predict that Amazon (US) will launch its own smartphone in 3-6 months, using the same hardware strategy used for its e-reader as well as tablet,' he recently wrote.



'The supply chain will start with the stocking of materials in Q2 2014 in preparation for production.'



This comes just a few weeks after Fire TV is an internet-connected set-top box that can also double as a gaming console, was introduced by the company.



The box gives users the ability to download television and film shows and apps.



To play games, gamers can use a remote or purchase a game controller for $40.



Mike Frazzini, from Amazon Games said that each game will be priced similarly to a smartphone app with an average cost of $2.

Games available at launch will include Minecraft, driving game Asphalt 8 and first person shooter Sev Zero, created by the games studio double Helix Microsoft bought recently.



Amazon's Peter Larsen stated that the company was looking to simplify the box and invent it.



He added, "It's incredibly powerful and it's unbelievably easy."



Amazon could be in direct competition with Apple and Google in this move. Apple is expected to unveil its new iPhone in September.
