The Third Tab is for Building Materials

The crafting table interface is available in Java Edition.

Crafting is the process of constructing tools, items, and blocks in Minecraft. Crafting involves moving items from the inventory to a grid for crafting and arranging them according the recipe. A crafting table can access three grids, including the 2x2 grid for crafting. Items made in the 2x2 grid may also be crafted in the crafting table.

2x2 Crafting grid (inventory)

3x3 Crafting grid (crafting table)

Creative, Survival Adventure, Creative, and Spectator (Java Edition only) players have always access to the 2x2 crafting grid via their inventory screen. Small crafting recipes that are at most 2x2 can be created there. This includes wooden planks, sticks, tables for crafting, torches, and even some non-shapeless recipes. You can make items using the 3x3 grid. To do this, you need to create a crafting board using four planks of wood and put it in the world. Then you can press the use button while facing it. The interface will appear with a 3x3 crafting grid that players can use to create any recipe for crafting within the game. You can also access all crafting recipes from the recipe book.

Some recipes don't require that ingredients are put in a particular order on the grid of crafting. These are commonly referred to as recipe that are shapeless. For instance, players can craft a fermented spider eye by placing the ingredients anywhere within the grid. [note 1]

However some recipes require ingredients are placed in the correct relative positions on the grid for crafting. https://srvlst.com/ They are also referred to as shaped recipes. Ingredients in shaped recipes can be 'moved' up, down, left, or right. They can also flip sideways. A 3x1 recipe, such as bread can be created using the top middle, bottom, and top rows of the 3x3 grid. It is not possible to create using the 2x2 grid as it requires three ingredients to be covered. Bows can be made by putting the strings on the left.

There are recipes that may not be mirrored or moved in this way. These are known as fixed recipes. For instance, dyes in banner recipes have to be precisely placed to create the desired pattern. *Bedrock Edition only. Fixed recipes can be added using mods or data packs.

As opposed to other game-related actions like brewing, smelting, and the enchanting, crafting is totally silent.

Shapeless recipes are marked on this wiki by the arrows of a pair that are intertwined on the crafting table graphic. This symbol is not used in the game. Recipe Book[]

The recipe book is a feature in Minecraft that acts as a recipe book and also as a crafting guide. It contains every crafting recipe that the player has attempted using the materials.

There are a variety of ways to organize crafting recipes, such as the following:

- The first tab contains every recipe that has not been unlocked. - The second tab contains tools, weapons, and armor. - The third tab contains building materials. The fourth tab is filled with food items and other miscellaneous items. The fifth tab is filled with redstone items. Recipe system[]

Recipes, such as crafting recipes, can be configured through data packs in Java Edition or add-ons in Bedrock Edition. As as of 1.16, there are 379 crafting recipes.

Complete recipe list[]

To save space, some recipes are animated (requires JavaScript). On this wiki, shapeless recipes are identified with a pair of intertwined arrows on the crafting table graphic while recipes for crafting that are fixed are identified with an exclamation point. These symbols do not appear in the game.
