Immersive Portals was released in 2019 but has been updated regularly since. Fabric API is used to create the mod, which includes several cool features. One of them is the ability to actually see through portals, making everything feel far more connected. However, you can also design your portals to be horizontal, or even have different designs.
You can also play with mirrors, create two-way portals in the overworld and even cover the world in special portals that let you repeat space indefinitely for mind-bending effects. It depends on how you use it. However you can look up every possible use on the mod's wiki.
