Information About the Sacred Heart Church
You'll find a lot of information about the Sacred Heart Church and its surrounding buildings and grounds. In addition to the church, you'll learn about the Sacred Heart School and its Mausoleum. You'll also get to know about its renovations. In 1957, a renovation took place that made the church's interior look more beautiful, with stained-glass windows and statues of Mary. Today, the Sacred Heart Church continues to serve its parish and its community.

Sacred Heart Church

The Sacred Heart Church was founded in 1847 and has a long history of being a place of worship for the Irish Catholic community. In 1957, the church was remodeled both inside and out. It now has stained glass windows and statues of Mary. It also has a modern chapel.

Originally, the Sacred Heart Church was under the care of St. Landry Church. It was blessed on December 12, 1860 by Father Gilbert Raymond, a missionary priest. In 1857, Father Genelory was the resident priest of Ville Platte. He served the congregation until 1868.

After the church was completed, the community fought to keep the church. Today, the church is a museum and a place of worship. The Braun-Sacred Heart Center is responsible for the annual Christmas Day Mass held in the Historic Sacred Heart Church. The church's past is reflected in its current state. The building is a symbol of the community that played a huge role in the development of Phoenix.

Sacred Heart School

Founded in 1800, the Society of the Sacred Heart School is one of New York City's oldest private schools for girls. Its original building was a brownstone located on Madison Avenue at East 54th Street. The school outgrew that space by the 1930s and moved to a larger facility in the Otto H. Kahn House, which is now known as Sacred Heart School. The school was also affiliated with the New York Interschool Association.

The school was once run by the School Sisters of Notre Dame, but their presence was discontinued in 1975. In their place came the Ursuline Sisters of Maple Mount, who taught 164 students in grades kindergarten through eighth. Later, the school was run by lay principals. The Poor Clare Missionary Sisters of the Most Blessed Sacrament took over administration in 2009 and sent the school to the parish. Since then, the school has been run by the Poor Clare Sisters of the Most Blessed Sacrament, who focus on teaching young children.

Sacred Heart Cemetery Mausoleum

The Sacred Heart Cemetery Mausoleum at The Church is a place to inter loved ones. There are three columbaria in the cemetery. Each columbarium contains 80 niches, each of which can house one or two cremated remains. Cremation has been legal in the Catholic Church since 1963, but the Church has certain guidelines regarding the burial of cremated remains. The cemeteries in this denomination must maintain the remains in proper condition and provide proper burial services.

The Sacred Heart Cemetery Mausoleum at The Church has an imposing 13-foot granite statue of the Sacred Heart that graces the entrance to the cemetery. During the service, friends and family can pay their respects to their loved one. A rosary can be said in honor of them, and memories can be shared at this memorial. Depending on the needs of the family, a viewing service can be held prior to the service. It may begin an hour before the service or follow the vigil. It is recommended that a viewing service end by 8:45 pm, although an extension is available for a small fee.

Sacred Heart Church renovations

The renovations at The Sacred Heart Church are nearing completion. The interior was renovated to create a contemporary and revitalized atmosphere. The original timber beams and wood slat ceiling have been refurbished. The alter is surrounded by hand painted artwork, and a new wood floor finishes the interior.

Since the 2011 fire, extensive restoration work has been completed. Indigenous values, spirituality, and symbolism have been better incorporated into the renovations. For example, the church now includes a teepee on the altar, tables for smudge pots, and other Indigenous symbolism. In addition, the church features artwork that depicts the Stations of the Cross.

A $2.5 million renovation is underway at The Sacred Heart Church, a landmark structure built in 1954. Its cornerstone was laid in 1954, and the current building on Ridge Street was completed just two years later. Work on the renovations began with a concert on Oct. 27. The concert will feature a performance by renowned violinist Yehudi Menuhin with the Cathedral Concert Orchestra and conductor Thomas Michalak.

Sacred Heart Church office hours

If you'd like to donate to the Sacred Heart Church, you should know its office hours: Monday - Saturday, 9 AM to 5 PM. The rectory is closed on federal holidays. If you need to make a donation during these hours, you can drop it off in an envelope at the old rectory.

During these hours, you can register for a class, turn in paperwork, and check the availability of a mass. If you're unable to make the meeting, there's always the next Sunday or the week afterward. Then, you can visit the parish office to arrange for a mass. Remember, "El Senor, nuestro Dios," is always with us.
