Minecraft Texture Packs: Building Creative Constructions with Improved Graphics

Minecraft is a video game that permits its players to construct constructions from textured cubes in an environment that is three-dimensional. The alpha version of the game was first released by Mojang, an Swedish company, in the month of May of 2009. Another beta version was launched in December of 2010. Mojang recently released the latest version Minecraft for Android and iOS platforms at MineCon 2011. However, not all Android-based gadgets support the game. To date, Minecraft is exclusively available only on Xperia Play.



Minecraft's graphics are nothing short of amazing. You will not find any shades in the game graphics, and it's available in low-resolution images. However with Minecraft Texture Packs or Mods these shortcomings can be overcome a bit. The Minecraft Texture Packs and Mods do not provide more options of backgrounds from the Minecraft world. The Mods also increase the resolution of the images. The main reason is that, apart from changing the graphics, there aren't any other applications for the Mods. However, the different backgrounds could make your gaming experience more enjoyable and less boring. Right now these Mods or texture packs can only be used on Macs and Windows computers.



There are many texture packs that you can download and incorporate into your Minecraft game. Optifine is one of them. The Optifine mod is very well-known because it has both enhanced performance and graphic qualities. The change isn't that drastic. Nevertheless, the mod can soften certain effects in the game. Another example of an Minecraft mod is the Water Shade Alpha. This mod cannot be used in conjunction with Optifine since they are not compatible with each other. Water Shade Alpha texture pack helps the water effects in the game appear more realistic.



To install a texture pack for Windows it is necessary to follow these steps:



1. WinRar is an excellent extractor program.



2. Click "run" in the top bar of the start menu. If you use Windows XP, type "%appdata%.minecraftbin"; if you use Windows Vista or 7, you will need to type "C:Users*YourUserName*AppDataRoaming.minecraftbin".



3. After you have entered the data, a folder will be created. Inside, you will find minecraft.jar inside.



4. Right-click on the file, then click the "Open With ..."" option from the popup menu , and choose "WinRar Archiver". This will open WinRar, which will display folders and files that have an extension of png.

5. Drag the textures from the pack and drop them into WinRar directly. This will alter the texture of the game. The new textures will be ready to play.
