Growing Plants In Minecraft

Growing Plants in Minecraft

Farmland

Farmland is essential for a variety of plant species. With hoes you can create farmland by digging dirt blocks or grass. Farmland is similar to dirt, but the block isn't quite as tall.

Farmland that remains unplanted for too long, or that is overrun (by mobs or players) will be reverted to dirt.

Irrigation

Farmland that is within four blocks of water will become irrigated (or "hydrated". Most crops grow better when farmland is irrigated rather than dry.

Lighting

The need for light is crucial for many plants to grow. They can be grown outdoors, but they will also thrive indoors if there enough sunlight.

You must have artificial lighting to grow crops indoors and underground.

Bone Meal

Many crops can be fertilised with Bone Meal to help them grow faster. Minecraft Bone Meal is made from bones of skeleton, and when you click to apply it to your plant, there is a possibility of it growing.

Wheat

Wheat is likely to be the first crop you will grow.

Seeds

First, you'll need

seeds

These can be obtained by breaking up blocks of long grass. You will also get more seeds if you harvest your wheat. Thus, you will only need only a few seeds in order to start.

The first time you plant your crop

First, make a hoe.

...and be sure to include water. Plant your seeds and observe them grow. To ensure that your crops grow at night, put an illuminated area near them so that they are ready for harvest earlier.

This is how your first wheat farm will look.

Make Bone Meal if you have bones and fertilize your crops. Two applications are typically enough to fully mature your wheat. If your wheat isn't fully ripe, you will need to wait.

It is ready when it turns gold:

When you harvest your wheat, you'll get the wheat item (for cooking or feeding to sheep and cows) and more seeds than the ones you started with. You will be able to plant a larger farm the next time!

Larger fields

One block of water can be used to irrigate 80 acres of agricultural land.

TIP:place a lily pad on the water to ensure you do not fall into the water the process of harvesting and replanting your wheat.

TIP: You can harvest wheat faster by pouring water over your field. Replanting, however, must be done block-by-block.

Melons and pumpkins

Melons can be used to make potions and can be a valuable food source. They are not edible, but they can be used as a helmet for protection against Endermen. Pumpkins are also used for crafting Jack'o'Lanterns, a decorative lighting fixture, and snow golems and iron golems

Seeds

The seeds of pumpkin and melon can be found in chests in mine shafts that have been abandoned and dungeons. Sometimes, pumpkins are found in the wild, while melon seeds might be found in the hands of an NPC villager.

You can make melon and pumpkin seeds using melon slices, or pumpkins.

Planting

It is important to plant seeds

farmland

You should water them regularly. The plant will transform into a melons or pumpkin plant in between 10 and 30 minutes. When the plant is mature pumpkin or melon will grow on a farmland, dirt or grass block beside the plant.

- speed up the growth of the plants by applying bonemeal. - while the seed must be planted on farmland, the fruit will grow on dirt, farmland or grass. After harvesting the plant will grow another fruit every 1-30 minutes. The plant can only produce one fruit at any given time. - an axe is the best tool to harvest pumpkins, however, any tool will work for melons.

Farm Layouts

There are many ways to design farms. Here are two options:

Lily Pads

Placing lily pads over top of any water in your farm will stop melon slices falling in there.

Carrots and Potatoes

Zombies can sometimes drop carrots and potatoes however they are also located in NPC villages.

Growing them is like growing wheat, except there are no seeds. Plant potatoes or carrots in the field, and preferably hydrated, and wait. Bonemeal will accelerate the process. When you harvest your crops, you'll be able to reap more than you originally planted.

Both potatoes and carrots can be consumed raw. However, it is better to bake the potatoes first.

Beetroot

Beetroot is another plant that is grown in the villages. When you harvest beetroot, you will be able to harvest Beetroot and Beetroot Seeds which can be planted.

Beetroot can be eaten raw, or cooked into Beetroot Soup. You can also make Rose Red dye from it.

Cocoa Beans

Cocoa beans can be found in dungeon chests, or on trees in the forest. You can cultivate them by planting the beans on the top of a Jungle Wood log (either use live trees or take a piece of wood from the tree and place it wherever you like. Just like other plants, they will go through various stages of growth and, when they are ready to harvest, you can pick them.

Nether Wart

Nether Wart is only available in Nether Fortresses. However once you've got some the plant, it can be grown anywhere. Plant it in Soul Sand, wait for it to grow, and harvest it once it has grown to a full size.

It doesn't need light, but it can't be increased by bone meal. It can only be grown it in soulsand, not in regular dirt.
