Minetest is a free and open source Voxel game engine, influenced originally by Minecraft it is gradually getting larger and better with plenty of available games for it. Minetest 5.4.0 is receiving a new release. They are releasing a first release Candidate. This is the time they need as many people to test it and ensure it runs properly.
They added an in-game UI to download games and mods back in Minetest 5.0, which was released in 2019. It worked and they improved it each release but a pain point was the dependency system. One modification required another, and it went on. It was a pain to find them all, but it is now much simpler. The 5.4 release includes a new UI flow to download mods and games, as well as dependency resolution, an ability to update all, and download queues.
Simple and effective It's effective and simple!
It really does make it a huge amount easier, and quicker too. This allows you to have your Minetest experience exactly how you'd like it. Do you want to pack every mod possible into the base Minetest game. Go for it. Want to try out the whole game of conversion? You can also try an entire game of conversion.
This could be a great way to get me to play more Minetest!
A few more things that are new includes:
- Improve input binding, allowing mouse bindings - Semitransparent background for nametags - Mapgen Flat: Add caverns, disabled by default - ContentDB: Add overwrite dialogue when content is already installed - A lot of modding improvements - Security fixes
