Minecraft's ray-tracing feature for Windows 10 has made its way out of beta for eight months following the feature first became available to users to test. The introduction of ray tracer support for NVIDIA's RTX graphics cards transforms the game's appearance into one that's, well, shinier. As we mentioned in our hands-on review earlier this year, the realistic lighting, reflections, and shadows that this feature can bring make Minecraft feel more immersive. Rabbitfest It's true that the game is still as blocky as ever, but the in-game sunlight is like a real-world scene, for example reflections and shadows can make you feel like you're in a virtual world.
You'll be able observe the benefits of ray tracing in the game if you are playing on a computer equipped with one of NVIDIA GPUs that are capable of ray tracing. Only maps and worlds that use a physical-based rendering texture pack will benefit from the benefits. You don't have to do anything, as it's already on by default. Other players who don't have access to this feature will see the worlds as normal visuals.
In its announcement, NVIDIA says ray tracing puts more stress on your GPU, so it uses its DLSS AI rendering technology to ensure that Minecraft with RTX will continue to run at minimum 60 FPS when playing at 1920x1080. The game can be played at 4K and 60FPS using more advanced GPU models (RTX3080 and 3090).
You can download worlds you can enjoy with ray tracing on from the Marketplace or create your own with assistance from NVIDIA's starter pack, if you need it. Minecraft and NVIDIA are also offering two new worlds for free: Colosseum RTX is already available, while Dungeon Dash RTX will be released soon.
