Our First Aid Symposium last January 15 was a perfect definition of learning while having fun. It was all thanks to the rescuers slash lecturers of the PDRRMO Kalibo for making the lecture light but very much well detailed for us to digest easily.

Personally, I learned many things during the symposium. I found out the roles of the first aiders, they help and save people like our doctors and nurses at hospitals that is why they are also considered heroes. Also, not all people can be a first aider because they should possess certain characters for them to be considered a good first aider. There are also instances that there will be hindrances that they will encounter during their rescue operation, that is why they should always be ready and quick to think of alternative solutions. Furthermore, I also discovered that if someone needs help there are steps that you can follow and that are to, firstly, a first aider should not panic because if you are not calm you cannot think straight or in short, you cannot assess the task properly. Second, check the surroundings and the victim. Third, call for medical assistance immediately or ask someone to call the nearby hospital while you're doing a first aid. Fourth, do compressions or CPR until the victim is conscious or until the help have arrived. And if I said I learned new knowledge about first aid, I mean it. I learned the different categories of injuries and the different classifications of open injuries, some examples of open injuries are punctures, avulsions, amputation, etc. The difference between rescue and transfer. The correct Recovery Position. The different methods of transfer, either with one-man carry, two-man, or three-man carry. I also gained knowledge regarding proper splinting and bandaging of the head, shoulders, arms, hand, feet, and toes. Also, the correct way of performing CPR the right position of the arms and procedures while doing the CPR. Moreover, the most memorable and the 'highlight of the show' for me during the symposium was the demo part of the carrying and the bandaging. I had a lot of fun and I laugh a lot while watching my classmates and batchmates, but of course I still listened and participated during the demo which I enjoyed doing.

I can say that the symposium can add up to my most memorable memories that I experienced in my high school life. The joy and excitement that I felt during those moments was incomparable. The First Aid Symposium was unexpectedly great and unforgettable. Our First Aid Symposium gave me knowledge about basic first aid that I can apply during emergency situations. At least now I know that wherever and whenever I go out and there are instances that needs first aid rather than just a bystander and just stand and look, I can help even just for a little. Because small things matter the most most especially when it can help alleviate or lessen the pain of someone is feeling or save someone lives.
