Learning about your country's government and government is not always the most exciting thing in the world. This is why the Danish Geodata Agency recreated the entire country of Denmark in 1:1 scale inside of Minecraft to make learning more fun. Unfortunately, the Internet had its own agenda, and decided to teach the Danes an important lesson about ... we don't even know. Why can't we have nice things?
In spite of the DGA switching off dynamite on the map they designed which comprised more than 4 trillion blocks and 1 terabyte of data the intrepid Minecraft users discovered that in-game carts carrying the dynamite remained in use. TCL ONLINE Utilizing this exploit players blew up areas of virtual Denmark towns, sometimes placing American flags and tanks in their stead. Classy.
Chris Hammeken, a DGA spokesperson, stated to The Register in the UK that there were only minor areas affected and that the DGA did not intend to restart the map. "We think that it is the nature of playing Minecraft elements are destroyed and new ones are being made," Hammeken said. "Therefore we will not reboot the game of Denmark in Minecraft. Sometimes, we will reconstruct minor areas if constructions are taken down and nothing new is being created."
