Minecraft
Anyone who has been paying attention to Minecraft is aware that it's experiencing a resurgence. We can now quantify this to a certain degree.
Microsoft announced to Business Insider this week that Minecraft has increased to 112 million monthly gamers an increase of 20 million from the figures for October. This is a game that's more than a decade old, but is still relevant.
Other than "it's good and people like it" there are a myriad of reasons for the current explosion of Minecraft. A new update was released in the midst of the 10th anniversary of the game and added a lot more content. PewDiePie is a 100 million-subscriber YouTuber, is credited for bringing the game back to the "influencer" scene. His channel was devoted to Minecraft for the past few months. Rokan themes Then there's the slow loss of Fortnite as players move out of that megahit and back to other games, Minecraft among them.
Minecraft's growth is even more impressive considering that on the majority of platforms, it isn't actually free, unlike Fortnite. Some may attribute Microsoft for putting it into the Xbox Game Pass as a move that has boosted its player base even more.
Fortnite seems to know that Minecraft is attracting less players and that's why we've seen the birth of Creative Mode in that game and the ongoing dedication to building it out. Minecraft is still the first and should continue to grow its popularity with the release of new games such as Minecraft Dungeons. This is a combination of the original with Diablo-like looting and dungeons.

All in all the message I keep hearing from Minecraft players is that it's an activity that people love to return to after a while away and in this case I believe there was a sort of a snowball effect in which many players returned to it in a group it was as if old friend groups could all join the game at once and have the same fun as they would have had 3-8 years ago.
Microsoft's $2.5 billion acquisition of Minecraft seemed odd at the time, but now they control one of the most played games in the world. I am willing to bet that 112 million monthly users is more than Fortnite is currently playing, and possibly only is competing with mobile games on this level. It's deeply impressive.
Expect Minecraft to live for a long time, and continue to be relevant through upcoming releases like Minecraft Dungeons and Minecraft Earth The AR game that will aim at Pokemon Go in the in the coming.
