若術前僅餘顳（外）側視野，視力在白內障手術後是不會獲得改善的，只是會覺得稍微變亮一些。 如果白內障手術前眼壓無法以藥物獲得良好控制時，則白內障手術最好由同時精於青光眼及白內障手術的醫師進行之。 外燴 由於青光眼手術的風險高於白內障手術，若非絕對必要，否則能免則免。 醫師會根據病患眼壓及視神經狀況，決定是否同時進白內障及青光眼手術。

一般正常的眼壓是 10 至 20 毫米汞柱之間。 但也有一群病人眼壓正常，但是視神經已經萎縮，視野也有造成缺損。 相反的，有一群人卻是眼壓高於正常，但是他們的視神經可能一輩子都沒問題。 除此之外，我們也要考慮眼壓有晝夜變化，因此不能以單一次的眼壓來作為診斷的依據。
一般而言，青光眼可以分為幾種型態，原發型最多的是隅角開放型及隅角閉鎖型，次發型的種類就比較多，可能是受傷引起或是因其它眼睛疾病所造成的，甚至是點了其它藥物引起的 (如類固醇的藥水)。 青光眼是一種常見的眼睛疾病，也是導致失明約主要原因之一;雖然不會傳染但會遺傳。 國人青光眼的罹患率，四十歲以上的中年人約為百分之一。
