weenmerch is an alternative-rock band from New Hope (Pennsylvania). Mickey Melchiondo & Aaron Freeman, better known by their aliases Gene Ween and Dean Freeman respectively, created the band. Pure Guava was their debut studio album. It reached 18 on the Australian chart. Two follow-ups were released, one live album and one EP. After that they took a brief sabbatical. They returned with avengeance to their roots in 2015 They currently consist of Mickey, Aaron, Glenn McClelland and Chris "Mean Ween” Williams. Claude Coleman Jr. a keyboard player with a passion for oddities and strangeness, joined the group for a while.
The band has been called the pioneers of alternative music. The band has toured all over the world. They recently played at festivals in Europe and the U.S. on their most recent tour. A collaboration with Japanese noise-rock act Boredoms was one of the highlights, as well the release Z-Rock Hawaii. John Peel, who supported them on their tour, helped them to get a home with the BBC.
While Ween is best known as a band that does gimmicks well, it has been observed that some of their most notable escapades were more important than mere reminiscences. The band has been involved with Elektra since its inception in 1985. The label is home to artists like Cheap Trick or The Smiths, who both performed alongside the band. After a year on the road, the band resurfaced with avengeance. The band managed to preserve their trademark "fear for the unknown" attitude despite the absence. Apart from occasional stops on tour, they have still managed to produce a number of hits. Most notably, the album-length smash Beavis and Butt-Head. They managed to survive despite a lack of activity in 2014 thanks to their fans, and the goodwill of their record labels. If you haven’t had a chance to see them live in concert, it is a great time to do so. They are currently touring to support their latest album, A Perfect World. If you managed to secure a ticket to a gig in your local area, it's highly possible that you'll be treated to an unforgettable show.
Ween is perhaps best known for their eclectic song list. However, there are several albums worth noting in their collection. The Pod includes a selection of songs that use pitch-shifted guitars as well as a clever mix of genres. A track listing that's almost like a trio, and a cover by Neil Young's "Whiskeyman" are two notable performances. In a short stint earlier this year, the Shit Creek Boys were also part of the group.
