It's important to know WoW's server statuses, as there are separate maintenance schedules and downtimes. Every realm in WoW Classic and the current game may experience occasional interruptions. It's helpful to know that Blizzard is the cause and not you. There's an easy way to check the status of realms at any given time.
Blizzard has an official Realm Status page on the website that includes all the different realms for both WoW: Modern and WoW Classic. Every realm can be viewed by its size, type, and time zone. You can also change the region at the top right. To the left of that is a status icon that determines whether or the realm is accessible to you. This is an important area to look if you're trying to login to your account on a maintenance day or a launch day for a new patch.
A quick search for WoW realm status will reveal some websites that look similar to the official website. I'd be careful using those over the official site, but they're a good place to check if , for any reason, Blizzard's website is not working. The final method of determining whether or the realms are down is simply log in and seeing the kind of message you get. Sometimes, you can view a live list showing the status of all realms as well as their status. This was one of the main ways to gain access to WoW Classic last year for name reservations.
Apart from that, you can often find people yelling that servers are down on Twitter or in our Discord channel. When you're in a crisis be assured that you're not the only one. We're all trying to get back online to complete our World Quests or to level up. Our collective effort will ensure that the servers are back up faster next time there's an outage. I hope.
