UKHO All Digital Update
The UKHO All Digital Update is an indispensable aid to shipowners/managers. The publication is available on CD and DVD and can be downloaded from UKHO's FTP site. Shipowners can also access updates via e-Navigator and the AVCS and ARCS Online Updating Service. However, from Week 2, the update CDs will be issued as normal. This publication is essential to help ship owners/managers decide whether to lay up their ship.

IPS appliances were originally designed to be stand-alone devices and now they are increasingly integrated into next-generation firewalls and unified threat management solutions for small businesses and enterprises. These new solutions connect to cloud-based computing and network services, providing a sophisticated approach to protecting against cybersecurity threats. IPS solutions can detect specific exploits by matching their unique signatures with a specific traffic stream.

IPS solution is not based on the R+/- N miles" rule

An IPS solution must balance false positive detections and false negatives to provide effective protection. Too strict of a security policy may lead to missed attacks, while too relaxed can allow legitimate traffic through. In order to achieve a balance between both, many IPS solutions are configured to operate in detection mode.

Attackers are using various techniques to compromise networks and steal data. One such method is exploit-facing signatures, which target the underlying vulnerability in a system. This approach protects against exploits that are unknown to security researchers, but raises the risk of false positives. Another approach, called anomaly-based detection, compares random network traffic to baseline performance and acts when abnormal traffic is detected.

To implement IPS, the router must load the SDF with the proper signature engine configuration. If the signature engine is not ready, it marks the packet as "not ready". This prevents the engine from analyzing packets destined for it.

IPS solutions provide an additional layer of intelligent protection, which can thwart sophisticated attacks that can paralyze an organization.
