How to get your Blog to Crash

If you host your website independently (or else have a service that is affected by the number of visitors) there's the chance that we could wreck your site.



This is also known as the Slashdot Effect, which occurs when a huge site overwhelms a smaller one with traffic. The most effective way to make us /facepalm is to leap up and down screaming that you're not connected.



Even if you've made a request there are a variety of reasons why we might not be able to connect you.



Your words might not be relevant to the article we are writing.



Your article may be relevant to an article published recently or one in the queue, but has yet to be written.



Most often, we get overwhelmed and a writer who could've used your link didn't realize it.



Your website is full of spelling and grammar errors which could be irritating to our readers.



Your site is full of sexual images, cussing or other sexually explicit content We have absolutely no desire to interact by you.



In a more personal way If you've ever been unkind to a blogger and I learn about it, you'll never receive any link from me.



There's a good chance that your blog post will fall into one or more of these categories. So before you send us an angry email or comment, check your blog to ensure that pictures of women in sexy clothes aren't flooding your sidebars or that your content wouldn't cause an English teacher scream. If not, #1-3 are pretty likely. Send us a link, but please not include a message saying that we're hateful. We do not like people who think they are entitled.



Because we get so many submissions which are simply a link, yours will stand out if you include a brief description of what your post is about, or if you think that a particular columnist in your class could benefit from it. Remember that we're looking for links to good posts! It shouldn't take us too long to determine what your post is!



The other way to make us /facepalm is to leap up and down, howling that you were linked.



We don't like being hounded. If you put it on the internet, by definition whatever you wrote isn't private sentiment.



We connect people because we think they've written something intriguing or cool, not to get them in trouble. We're not clairvoyant, and we aren't able to tell if what you wrote is going to get you in trouble. Bottom line; don't post anything on the internet that you would not want your mother to read.



Don't be alarmed if traffic slows down.



The majority of websites eventually settle into traffic patterns that reflect the actual people who are reading their content. Individual bloggers typically cover one specific aspect of one class or even a single class, since it's difficult and time-consuming to write effectively about multiple classes. This limits the audience for your blog. If you write about Holy Paladins, then Affliction Warlocks will not be able access your site via Google hits or be interested in the guides you produce. It's not personal, they're not part of your audience. Your traffic will not always look like a continuous rising line on graphs. Don't be concerned about your numbers if you produce quality material, help people comprehend and access high-quality information, and work to build an impressive archive. You're doing your job.



Be patient.



Rome was not built in a day and you're not likely to go from a few pageviews per day to 50K in a month or 2 months or even 6 months. Keep going and we're here to assist.
