WoW Player Wins Race to new Wrath Classic Level Cap using a Decade-old Bug

WoW player wins race for new Wrath Classic level cap by using a decade-old bug

WotLK queues are where the majority WoW Classic fans are.

A World of Warcraft player has hit the highest level possible in Wrath of the Lich King Classic in just a few hours, despite the servers launching to long queues.

Echo Guild's Naowh won the race to reach level 80 on the new servers by using a bug dating back to 12 years that is as classic as the servers themselves which allowed the World of Warcraft fan to complete the feat in less than nine hours. Naowh was able to benefit from the Elite monster, which generates zombies every time you kill them. Tag the zombies before a new wave is summoned, and they'll disappear, but still grant you the XP you would have received for killing them.

To help accelerate their plan further, Naowh also partied up with a group of other players using level one accounts. Naowh was able to gain additional group XP when they fell victim to the undead wave. This helped them accelerate their progress to level 80.

The glitch has been around since the first Wrath of the Lich King launch. Naowh's viewers wondered if Blizzard might restore his account to level 70 to cancel his achievement. However, he seems to be quite content about the whole situation. For Naowh is either the first person to achieve level 80 or the first to hit level and then subsequently be punished.

Naowh has accomplished the feat.

While the Classic Wrath of the Lich King servers have just launched, they're looking mighty popular If social media is any indication. Reddit and Twitter are brimming with tons (opens in a new tab) of images (opens in a new tab) of queue lengths. Heck, even Naowh had his fair share of problems. Still, that hasn't dampened the excitement around seeing the boat arriving to take them off to Darkshore.

More? Tsa club World of Warcraft: Dragonflight launches this year, Blizzard says.
