According to Official Statements, Poland is Experiencing more Cyberattacks on its Government Servers

WARSAW (Reuters), February 25, 2015 - In recent days, more cyberattacks have hit the Polish government's computer servers, as well as the national payment clearing system according to an official in the government responsible for cyber security.



Janusz Cieszynski spoke on Polish public radio and claimed that authorities have not yet identified the source. This is happening as Russia insists on an all-out invasion of Ukraine, Poland's eastern neighbor.



Ukraine has also been hit by a series of cyberattacks in recent weeks that Kyiv blames on Russia. Moscow has repeatedly denied any involvement.

Cieszynski declared that "the website of the (Polish national clearing system as well as servers dedicated to government email network were attacked."



"The attacks are being closely watched... It's still too early to assign authorship of these attacks."



Separately, the president of Poland's largest power utility PGE SA, Wojciech Dabrowski told the radio station that his company's IT networks have also been attacked, but said that they were safe and that supply of heat and power were not disrupted.



Poland on Monday raised its cyber security alert level obliging users of critical infrastructure to closely monitor their systems.



Many businesses and governments across the West are on high alert for cyberattacks following the announcement of severe economic sanctions against Russia. Russian forces attacked Ukrainian cities including the capital Kyiv on Friday.
