Bending Borders
Bending Borders is a project with a purpose to raise awareness of prejudgments, engage the public in a dialogue, and change the public's point of view. This project is led by Effetto Larsen, who presented research on prejudgments at FAROUT. It is open to everyone.

CCTV cameras

When you install CCTV cameras, you have the option of bending the borders of the video surveillance area. This feature allows you to view the same scenes from different cameras. This helps prevent intruders from identifying the direction of a particular camera. Another option is to place the cameras so that their coverage overlaps. This feature can be advantageous in outdoor applications, as it can prevent intruders from knowing which direction the camera is pointing.

A CCTV camera's field-of-view is dependent on the focal length, the distance between the lens and the object and the size of the CCD sensor. These factors have significant security implications: a narrow field-of-view can miss risky events, while a large field of view may not provide sufficient resolution.

Dogs

Dogs' body language can give clues about whether they're happy or upset. A dog's body language can range from extreme fear to exaggerated joy. Understanding this is important for a dog owner. If your dog is suddenly excited or upset, he or she may be in pain or in need of rest.

Wooded areas

Wooded areas are often naturally curved. A sweeping, curved border can open up a space and make it feel larger. It is important to make sure the curve is uninterrupted. Use a length of hose as a guide when digging a curve. Undulating edges can look great but be careful not to go too far. Plants can be placed along the edge of a curved border to enhance the effect. You can also use plants to create a 'rise and fall' rhythmic effect.

Black-market activity

A black market is any activity that is not sanctioned by the government. This may include illegal trade or legitimate business that evades taxes. Many black markets have grown as a result of incentives to earn profits and the absence of ethical standards. They generally deal in cash and, in some cases, digital currency.

The vast majority of black market activity is unregulated and illegal. However, some activities are permitted. These businesses offer goods to people who have no legal rights to sell them. For example, illegal immigrants can buy goods at low prices in the black market. They can also find employment outside their country without the necessary documentation. Even children can work in violation of minimum age requirements.

Organised crime

In an increasingly globalized world, organised crime is burgeoning. Its effects are far-reaching, affecting national security and the well-being of the public. It can also have profound consequences for democratic institutions and economic stability. Transnational crime networks have a growing number of targets, and their activities have become more diverse and explosive, resulting in a destabilising effect on society. This is one of the reasons why the United States is trying to organize its countermeasures to combat these growing threats.

While the relationship between organized crime and borderlands is complex and multifaceted, it has received little attention in traditional state-centric perspectives. Using a comparative case study, Abraham and Van Schendel highlight the engagement of organized crime in bordering practices. Rather than focusing on the traditional role of states, the authors focus on the role of borderlands in the creation of illicit markets.
