The Warner Bros. Minecraft movie has a new director... again. Variety reports that Peter Sollett is now on the board to write and direct the long-awaited movie that was initially scheduled to be released in May of this year. However, production has hit delays, due in part to director switchups. The film was originally being directed by Rob McElhenney (It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia) However, the project was cancelled in August. He was also taking the reins from Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum) who quit in 2014.
Sollett directed 2002's Raising Victor Vargas and 2008's Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist. He also won praise for his work on the short film Five Feet High and Rising. Mojang Minecraft's developer is believed to be still involved in the making of the film.
Warner Bros. scored the rights to the Minecraft film in 2014, and the question is now if Minecraft is still able to attract the viewers it could have years ago. While it's not known when the film will be released, there's a chance that it will have the new director.
