This year I completed my Undergraduate studies and completed my degree with a distinction in Artificial Intelligence from the University of Edinburgh.
Unfortunately, due to refurbishment I wasn't able to graduate in McEwan hall. As a result, the only time I've been able to appreciate McEwan was during my second year Probability exam. It was not a great moment to look at the ceiling murals.
We used Usher Hall as a surrogate, which is where most chamber music and symphony concerts are held.
Given how diminutive the informatics class is, we were bundled up with the school of Engineering. We were awarded two honorary degree speeches as a result. I'm not sure what the engineer did. The Computer Science speaker got the deal to develop minecraft for the X-box.
That's a good guess.
One of the peculiarities of the University of Edinburgh is that we don't wear a mortarboard cap. Instead, all students wear the same cap. When they walk across the stage, the vice-chancellor taps each student on the head.
Fun-fact: Piers Sellers offered to take the hat into space. PNP89 Spacecrafts can explode, which is why the hat was crucial. The university's emblem was taken to space and sewn onto the hat.
I was booed on the head by an oversized space-hat.
I was able to buy enough tickets for my parents and grandparents. My family came to visit a few weeks before and we walked together across Ireland and the highlands.
Jammy got a free-morning and I had one remaining ticket. Jam-Jam is the father of polar bears was present at my graduation.
