The Danish government has recreated the entire country using the popular computer game Minecraft.

The first nation to be fully integrated into the massive Minecraft games The government hopes that it will help make lessons more fun for students.

It even designed plans for teachers' lessons to guide them through this virtual version of their nation.

The Ministry of the Environment in Denmark has created an Minecraft model of Denmark for players to explore.

The downloadable model consists of 4 billion blocks and needs one terabyte of storage space.

What is MINECRAFT?

Minecraft was created in 2009. At the beginning of the game, a player is placed in a 'virtually endless game world.'

They can then explore different terrains, including forests as well as caves.

For a bird's-eye view the landscape, players can fly high in the air.

Players are given blocks and tools to build towns and cities.

As players progress they will acquire advanced tools and building blocks made of various materials.

While the original game was designed for the PC There are now mobile versions and Xbox 360.

The model is made up of roughly 4000 billion bricks. It takes up around 1TB (1000 gigabytes) to download the entire nation.

"We've built Denmark online in Minecraft in order that young people can plant their own forests, establish riding school, a lake, biogas plant, wind turbine, and so on , said Kirsten Brosbol, Danish Minister for the Environment.

"Imagination is the only thing that can be the limit.

"This is how we can make a connection between the digital world and the natural world."

It was developed by Simon Kokkendorf, Thor Bjorn Nielsen and Geodatastyrelsen (the Danish mapping arm of government),

They took public information about the country, including elevation models and information on roads and buildings and 'translated' it into Minecraft's distinctive bricks.

The team also developed an interactive navigation system to ensure that visitors can easily navigate their own area within the model.

They can also look at the natural landscapes and nature as they appear in real life.

The Agency said that you can "go for a stroll" in the countryside of Denmark. You can also see any location in Denmark in a similar way as Google Street View.

Orestad school in Copenhagen has been testing the system to teach students geography and maths.

In the past when teachers would lay out the old map of Denmark in the classroom and then have the students wrestle over the names of the various regions of Denmark", said Katrin Kristensen, a teacher at the Orestad school.

Future Danish schoolchildren and others will be able to record their experiences with game the animals and plants they've seen in the wild.

"Now Denmark is available on the children's computers or tablets, supporting the aim of using digital technology in the classroom.

"We have a lot of experience with Minecraft in teaching maths.

'With the 'real Denmark' now available as an Minecraft world that will give us even more opportunities to inspire learning.

"Pupils have more fun to work with their own home streets, street and so on."

The developers made one change to the game: they eliminated the ability to use Dynamite in order to blow up certain areas.
