Minecraft Jungle Biomes Explained

Jungles are one of the largest and most diverse biomes found in Minecraft. Here's how to locate a Jungle in Minecraft and what you can expect once you get there.

This article is applicable to all Minecraft versions, including Minecraft: Pocket Edition.

How to Find a Jungle in Minecraft

Jungles are a rare event in Minecraft. Jungles as with most biomes in Minecraft do not have a fixed place of origin. However they are more likely to spawn near Savannas and Mesas than Desert biomes. The large number of tall trees that make up the Jungles make them immediately obvious. These trees will almost completely cover the roof of the Jungle with their leaves.

An external tool called Biome Finder can help you locate the exact location of Jungle biomes.

Jungle Trees

Jungle trees can reach up to 30 blocks tall and are usually covered in vines that players can climb. The base of the biggest Jungle tree is made of four blocks. This allows you to gather 120 blocks of wood from one tree. The base of a Jungle tree is a good base for constructing the treehouse.

The wood has a slight pinkish-red hue after the tree's Jungle Wood is refined and made into Jungle Wood Planks. The Jungle Wood Planks are not distinguished by any special characteristics apart from their color. They can be made into many tools and products similar to all Planks. You can also create color variations for items such as Doors, Boats, and Stairs.

Jungle Types

Jungles biomes come in different variations:

- Regular Jungle - Jungle Hills

- Jungle Edge

- Bamboo Jungles

While regular Jungle biomes are hazardous, Jungle Hills are even worse. In a Jungle Hill, it's best to remain seated on the ground until you can find an option to keep yourself in the air. In the Edge variants of the Jungle biome, the trees are smaller and further from each other. Bamboo Jungles are mini-biomes that exist within regular Jungles where the trees are smaller and it is more likely to come across pandas.

Jungle Ocelots

Only the Jungle biome is home to Ocelots. Ocelots can be hard to locate due to the denseness of the bushes and trees. However they are worth the effort to locate as they are a threat to Minecraft Creepers who try to get them by sneaking up on them.

To capture an Ocelot to catch an Ocelot, slowly approach the animal with a raw fish. After the mob has spotted your presence and doesn't flee you must stop and remain where you are. Let the Ocelots come to you and then feed them to gain their trust.

Jungle Temples

Certain Jungle biomes are home to mysterious structures made of Mossy Cobblestone and Chiseled Stone Bricks. These Jungle Temples are brimming with puzzles, traps and plenty of treasure. 1gameday Inside you will find things such as Arrows, Bones, Rotten Flesh, Saddles, Enchanted Books, Iron Horse Armor, Iron Ingots, Gold Horse Armor, Gold Ingots, Diamond Horse Armor, Diamonds, and Emeralds.

Jungle Plants

Cocoa plants are a rare species that grows on the Jungle Biome's sides. The Cocoa plant has three forms that include a small green form one, a medium-sized yellow-orange type and a ready-to harvest dark orange-brown type. Harvested Cocoa can be used in making recipes for food items, changing the color of products and much more. Cocoa Beans can be used only on Jungle Wood and, therefore, if you are planning to bring it out of the Jungle to begin the farm, it is recommended to bring a small amount of Jungle Wood with you.
