Minecraft YouTube Videos have been Watched by 47 billion People.

Adults and kids alike aren't playing Minecraft in millions of people: they're also watching YouTube videos that were created using Minecraft and those videos are getting billions of views.



Octoly, an online video provider has released a report that aims to quantify this. It states that Minecraft videos were watched 30.8 billion times by June 2014. minecraft-servers.space Only 318 million of those views were from Mojang the publisher of Mojang.



That's nearly three times the number of views for videos on Grand Theft Auto, which Octoly believed was the second most watched gaming brand on YouTube with nearly 12 billion views, ahead of Call of Duty (10.2 billion), Angry Birds (six billion) and Halo (4.8 billion).



The company claims that as of June, Minecraft videos have been watched by 16 billion people, taking its total to 47 billion views. "In June, our Octoly360 system identified 81,000 distinct YouTube creators talking about Minecraft," explained Octoly. "Today, there are almost twice the number of creator channels that feature Minecraft videos than there were in June," Octoly explained.



Minecraft being so far ahead of rival brands will not be a shock to anyone who has been following the game and/or the evolution of YouTube in the past few years.



In an analysis of the top 100 YouTube channels in September 2014, published by industry website Tubefilter, based on data from analytics firm OpenSlate, child-friendly Minecraft channel Stampy was the third largest channel in the world , with 189.6 million views that month.



Also popular in September were channels that had a heavy or total Minecraft focus, such as Vegetta (eighth in the world with 164 million views in September) and The Diamond Minecart (10th with 161.8 million).



Mojang has been assisting its YouTube community since the inception of Minecraft. They have avoided copyright disputes with creators of videos and have a non-judgmental approach towards the content of their videos.



"We have a lot of people who are making their living solely making videos about Minecraft. Just the economics how many people are making a living off this one IP is pretty amazing," Mojang's chief operating officer Vu Bui told the Guardian in October.



"That does not mean anything to anyone, and I would argue that it actually adds to Minecraft, to see people who are extremely talented doing things. We have effectively outsourced YouTube videos to millions of people. The results they generate are more imaginative than anything we've ever made.



YouTube is a large factor in the reason that Minecraft is such a strong, well-loved gaming brand in 2014. It's an important reason for Microsoft's decision purchase Mojang for $2.5bn this summer.



Microsoft is not just buying the game that has sold more than 54 million copies across mobile, console and computer platforms. Microsoft is also buying one of the largest television brands in the world. Despite the fact that it's huge popularity is online, rather than on traditional television.
