N-methyl-5-(2-aminopropyl)benzofuran (5-MAPB) is a new psychoactive benzofuran made by N-methylating 5-(2-aminopropyl)benzofuran (5-APB), which has the same structure as methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA). As far as we know, no case of toxicity caused by 5-MAPB has been written up in the scientific literature. We discovered that a white 24-year old man was exposed through his mouth to 5-MAPB. He had been previously healthy. This was confirmed by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. Some symptoms included paleness and cold, clammy skin, high blood sugar, elevated high-sensitive Troponin T levels, diaphoresis (electronic cardiogram), ECG change, diaphoresis. Also, there was mild hyperthermia. There were also signs such as tremor, hyperreflexia. After aggressive treatment, which included treatment with benzodiazepines and external cooling, analgesia with fentanylpropofol and treatment with -receptor-blocking drug, the receptor-blocking agent called urapidil. 5-MAPB was half-lived for 6.5 hours.
