N-methyl-5-(2-aminopropyl)benzofuran (5-MAPB) is a new psychoactive benzofuran made by N-methylating 5-(2-aminopropyl)benzofuran (5-APB), which has the same structure as methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA). There is no documented case of 5-MAPB-related poisoning in the scientific literature. We discovered that a white 24-year old man was exposed through his mouth to 5-MAPB. He had been previously healthy. This was confirmed by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry.
