Common user errors

If the world you're playing in doesn't match the map here at all, it's likely due to one of the following:



You entered the wrong seed or coordinates - you selected the incorrect edition or version (the one used to generate the region you're looking at) or you applied mods or resource packs that affect world generation - (for slime chunks) you didn't wait long enough, since slime chunks have a low spawn rate, even in slime chunks.





Mixed version worlds

If you start your world with an older version of the app, you will have to switch between the two versions in the app. Always choose the version that created the chunks that you are interested in.





Coastlines

Versions 1.18 and higher do not have perfect coastlines. This isn't a problem but rather because the map shows underlying biomes instead of the exact terrain. Near the coasts, ocean and river biomes usually have land, while biomes on land can be underwater.





The limitations that are known

A lot of features aren't 100% exact. For example, some locations may be incorrect or missing. This includes:



Dungeons-End Cities on the Bedrock Edition-World Spawn Locations-Amethyst Geodes (near mineshafts, caves, etc.)



Other structures like villages and igloos can sometimes fail to generate in-game as well, however this is likely to occur less often than for the features mentioned above.





Requirements


Seed

For technical reasons, it is necessary to know the seeds of your own world before you can use Seed Map or, of course, you want to discover a seed for a new world. If you're playing SSP and the app is able to retrieve the seed from your savegame. Alternatively, you can make use of the /seed command while playing. In SMP you can use the same command if you have the rights. You're still dependent on the server owner who created the world and has access the savegame and configuration files.





Browser

This application uses the latest web technologies. This means that some features might not work with older browsers. I recommend using the most current version of a major browser such as Chrome, Firefox, Edge or Safari.





Usage


Seed Selection

The first thing you need to do is choose an appropriate seed and version. You can either input it manually, or you can load it from your savegame. This can be done by clicking on "Load from Save" ..." and selecting level.dat, or by drag&dropping the level.dat file into your browser window. Level.dat is a small file located in the folder of every Minecraft savegame. You can find the savegames in the saves folder of your Minecraft installation. On Windows you can use %appdata%.minecraftsaves to get to that folder.



A seed is always a number, up to about 20 digits. If you type in something else (like letters) it will be converted into the form of a number. The app does this the same way Minecraft does, so it's safe to use letters (and other characters) as well.





Dimension and Size and

Below the seed and version, you can select the Minecraft dimension you wish to see (Overworld, Nether or End). This and the version you are using will determine what features can be turned on. Click on the icons to toggle specific features.



Click the arrow to the right of the box to expand or reduce the box of features. This will display the complete names of all the features, as well as additional options.



Note that some features will only appear if you zoom in enough. This is to keep the app quick and not to flood it with icons. After the warning is displayed, all affected features will be highlighted in the app.





Navigation

After you have entered all the options you can start using the map. Scroll using the arrow keys to move the cursor towards the map. You can also move your mouse around while holding the left mouse button. Zooming can be done using the slider beneath the map, or using your mousewheel. You can zoom in on the exact location (e.g. your base) and place markers there using the lower inputs. You can always remove or add the marker by double-clicking on the map. You can save the map you are currently viewing by clicking the "Save Map" button.





Locating the best structure sites

To view the exact coordinates for the icons on the map, tap or click them. For certain structures, additional information is shown as well.





Touchscreen

You will see an additional option to enable or disable touchscreen control underneath the map, if you're using a touchscreen-enabled phone. If you enable this option you can drag the map with your finger to navigateit, you can pinch to zoom in and out, and you can tap and hold to set an outline on the map.
