Minecraft is Closing in on 140 Million Monthly Active Users

Hello, here's your semi-frequent reminder that Minecraft is a huge game. Satya Nadella, Microsoft's chief executive officer, has revealed that Mojang's build'em-up had nearly 140 million monthly active users between January 1 and March 31, during the most recent financial update. GUIMODS Even so the number of active players Minecraft currently has is 30% higher than that of the same time last year.



Nadella added that Minecraft creators have earned over $350 million from "more than one billion downloads of mods and add-ons to Minecraft" That's not including activity outside of Microsoft's marketplace neither.



The pandemic has likely led to an increase in gamers to Minecraft, but there are many other things driving the interest in the game, too. Mojang's pixelated take on Diablo, Minecraft Dungeons was released in the year before and this year, Caves and Cliffs will be available in two parts. Mojang previously explained it decided to divide the update into two to ensure high quality, control technical complexity, and keep the development team well-maintained. You can expect to see some of the new blocks and mobs in the summer months, and the more complex parts of world generation in the festive season.



Elsewhere in Microsoft's financial report the company says it racked up $41.7 billion in revenue, up 19% on the same period in the previous year.



"Digital adoption curves haven't decreased even though we're more than one year into the pandemic." They're growing faster and it's only the beginning," Nadella says.
