Minecraft's Axolotls have arrived as one of the three new adorable creatures added to the game's Caves and Cliffs update.



We don't blame for you if you were enthralled by these adorable little cuties and decided to have your own. We've put together all you should be aware of to breed and feed, tame, and raise Minecraft axolotls.

Minecraft axolotls: where they breed




Axolotls from the real world have been found in the wild in two lakes in Mexico One of which has been wiped out. Therefore, even the Minecraft's axolotl population has specific restrictions determining where they'll start their lives, rest assured in the knowledge that they're much easier to find than in the real world.






The following conditions must be met to allow Axolotls to spawn:



- They can only spawn in water , and below the Y-level of 63. They are not able to be spawned in darkness (Light Level 0). Their spawning location must be within five blocks of the stone-type block, and a solid block must be above it.



Due to these restrictions, axolotl was able to only reproduce in caves underground. However in Cliffs and Caves Part 2, Mojang changed their locations. You'll now only find axolotl under azalea trees in Lush Caves.





Can you tame axolotls in Minecraft?




Technically speaking, it's impossible to control Minecraft's Axolotls. We're sorry to disappoint you.



However, you can get them to follow you by holding a bucket of Tropical Fish (but no Tropical Fish items!) When you approach them, hold a strong>Bucket of Tropical Fish in your hand. This allows you to corral them to an extent, giving you some freedom to guide them to a place that you choose.






Axolotls can be attached to leads or snatched up in a Bucket of Water to transport them further. You can acquire an axolotl for your pet by grabbing it.



It is also extremely beneficial to be capable of herding axolotls in breeding them.





How do you breed axolotls in Minecraft




To breed axolotls, you have to bring two adults together in the same vicinity using one of the methods mentioned above. This is the easiest and most effective method to get them to breed.






You then need to get them both in Love Mode by feeding them a bucket of Tropical Fish each.



If both are in Love Mode they will autonomously breed and create an axolotl-like baby.






The baby will be with its parents until it reaches adulthood in about 20 minutes. If you're extremely impatient, you can cut this time by giving the baby buckets of tropical fish. Wow how fast they grow up!



Axolotl colours breeding rare blue axolotl



Five colors are available for Minecraft Axolotls



The four most commonly used colours are lucy, wild (brown), yellow (yellow), Cyan (actually the two colors are whitish and aqua spots). In-game breeding offers an opportunity to have a 50/50 chance that a newborn axolotl will inherit the colour pattern of one parent.






There is a 1 in 1,200 chance that breeding will result in the rare blue axolotl.



A little bit of trivia Blue axolotls unlike the other four patterns, aren't based on real-life Axolotl colours, but are inspired by Mudkip Pokemon. The low spawning probability is an indication of the estimated number of real-world Axolotls that are still in the wild. The more you know about them, the better!





Are Minecraft Axolotls axolotls a threat?

Axolotls are considered to be a passive mob, at least when it comes down to the player.



They are, however, antagonistic to all other marine mobs with the only exceptions being dolphins and turtles.






If you're a flinty monster (or possibly just terribly awkward) and cause damage to your axolotl, it has an increased chance of dying dead rather than actually dying. It's the same to it taking damage from other mobs (like those it's always aggroing for no apparent reason).



While shamming it will slowly recover its lost health over time, and won't be attacked by other mobs until it returns to normal activities. In other words, these cute amphibians are, thankfully, quite robust creatures.
