Locating .minecraft[]

Below is a table displaying the default directory for .minecraft.



Finding the .minecraft folder is essential in the installation of the resource pack or finding any created screenshots.



The Windows location shown in the table is only the default location. Launchers can place the .minecraft anywhere.

If you're a Windows user but aren't sure about how to locate your appdata folder to locate it, follow these steps:



1. Click Start - Run. If you don't see "Run" Press Windows + R. 2. Type %APPDATA%.minecraft and click "OK". If you're a Mac user, you can open the folder through Spotlight:



1. Open Finder and press Shift + Command + G, or open the Spotlight popup by clicking the magnifying glass icon to the right side of the Menu Bar. 2. Type ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft and hit | Enter.


Linux and macOS use the in their paths to refer to the home directory. Folders beginning with . are automatically hidden. In most file managers using Ctrl + H switches their status to hidden. MacOS 10.12 (Sierra) includes the shortcut Command + Shift+. toggles the hidden status file status.

The use of a resource pack can be forced by naming the zip file to resources.zip and placing it in the root folder of the world save. This feature is only for single-players; However, there's a different option for servers to request or force clients to use the server resource pack.



For Windows OS and Linux, the contents of nativelog.txt and nativeUpdaterLog.txt can be found within launcher_log.txt when appropriate (i.e. the contents ofnativeUpdaterLog.txt will only be present in latest_log.txt after the launcher is updated / launched for the first time).
