How to Get Minecraft Capes

How to obtain Minecraft capes

Prior to this, they were only available to Minecon attendees You can now purchase your very personal Minecraft capes. They are now available in Minecraft Java and Bedrock.

How can you get hold of Minecraft capes, you think? You may have heard rumours about the mythical piece of cloth that graces the shoulders of the most elite Minecraft players. Legends speak of a variety of Minecraft caps that were given to the most fortunate players over the years. The word on the block (sigh) is that capes also modify the appearance of Minecraft Elytra, the magical wings found in end ships, since they take up the same space on a player's back. It's not a surprise that Minecraft capes are sought after, but it's been a challenge to find them.

Each year, a different color and design was presented to attendees of any Minecon event prior to Minecon Earth 2017. Even rarer still are the personal capes gifted to lucky people as a token of appreciation of their accomplishments for example, Reddit user u/billyk_, who received a personalized turtle cape for suggesting Mojang should include turtles in Minecraft.

If you're unable to come up with a suggestion that's as good as turtles or that can travel back to Minecons past, you won't be able to buy any of these Minecraft caps in the Java edition. They are more popular in the Bedrock version because there are several skin packs to choose from the Marketplace. You can get the cape for free using Minecraft mods. However it's only visible to your face. There is one currently available Minecraft cape for the Java edition, though it's not available yet, so keep reading for more information on how to obtain it.

Transfer your account to Minecraft to gain a Minecraft cape

In a blog post published in 2020, Mojang announced that it is moving all Minecraft Java edition accounts from Mojang to Microsoft. This is a mandatory change, so if you don't change your account at the time it is due then you'll never be able to play Minecraft unless you utilize the launcher.

If you sign in to Minecraft with your Microsoft account, you'll unlock a shiny new cape. Mojang doesn't automatically create new Minecraft accounts.

You can read up on the steps to take by reading this blog post by Mojang.

How to activate Minecraft caps

If you have an official Minecraft cape, you are able to equip them before launching a game. The capes you have Bedrock caps are only available in the version you have chosen. The same applies to any capes you earn in Minecraft Java version.

For the Bedrock version start the app and click the button to enter the Dressing Room from the main menu. Next, click on the tab on the left of the screen with a red cape and the Mojang logo. This will display all available capes. Select one to equip.

To play the Java version, you'll need to open the Launcher and click on Minecraft: Java Edition on the left-hand side of the screen. You will see a number of options which include Skins. To view all your skins, select this option. From here, you can either create an entirely new skin or modify an existing one. You can browse all your official-available capes by clicking the option to choose Skin File.

Minecraft mods let you create an eagle cape.

What if you really want your avatar to wear a cape right now but you're not interested in the free cape for migration? You can make your own cape using mods. You can acquire any of the coveted capes in the game - or, better yet than any cape you can imagine - by using mods such as the Advanced Capes Mod.

There is a caveat that other players you interact with on multiplayer Minecraft servers will not be able to view your cape unless they also have the same mods installed. The only way to obtain capes that everyone can see is by waiting for official capes to be gifted to you by Mojang as it transfers your account.

That's all you should know about getting yourself an awesome Minecraft cape If you're looking to complete your ensemble, here are the best Minecraft skins we've found or you could deck yourself out with a full outfit of Minecraft Netherite armor.
